It was founded in 1902 and designated departmental capital in 1912. It is located on the banks of the confluence of the Mother of God River and the Tambopata River and is one of the main commercial hubs of the Amazon. It is connected to the rest of the country, to Bolivia and Brazil via the Interoceanic Highway. Among the tourist attractions of this city, you can mention interesting sites, predominantly natural, such as the National Reserve of Tambopata-Candamo; that has a total area of 5,500 hectares, territory in which it is possible to recognize more than five hundred different species of birds, as well as almost a thousand different types of butterflies, 115 types of libellus, 205 varieties of fish; more than one thousand two hundred species, among other natural resources that increase the value of the Reserve.
